The popular hot dog joint, opened in 2016, had become well known for its range of signature and customizable franks, burgers, milkshakes and more.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Weenies Denville has closed for good,” reads a Wednesday evening post on the shop’s Facebook page.

“COVID presented many challenges like supply shortages, skyrocketing cost of goods and services, and quarantine protocols, but the greatest toll has been the lack of people looking for work in the service industry.”

The shop “spent thousands” posting jobs in hopes of finding workers but had “very little luck,” according to the post.

“2020 was rough, but there was still a workforce actively seeking employment in the service industry that made it possible for us to weather the storm,” reads the post. “That has not been the case in 2021 and we are no longer able to hold on.”

Meanwhile, customers hungry for the shop’s feel-good fare can still find it at Weenies on Main Street in Madison.

“We want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported and worked with us over the years,” the post concludes. “It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve you all and we will miss doing so.”
